MONTGOMERY, Alabama – On Sunday, September 15th, 2019 the Community Congregational United Church of Christ will be a site of worship but also a site for blood donations as the congregation, partnering with the local Sickle Cell Foundation and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, hosts a Community Blood Drive as part of its annual “Family and Friends Day” celebration.
The event, held during national Sickle Cell Awareness Month, is the result of the labor and passion of several church members and the church’s pastor, Rev. Raymonda R. Speller. Rev. Speller says of the event, “As Christians we know the power of the blood. At Community we are all about ministering to the spiritual needs but also the physical needs of people. We want to see people transformed not just spiritually by the blood of Christ, but we want to see people with chronic ailments like Sickle Cell helped by the blood of their brothers and sisters as well.”
In addition to the inspiring and lively worship service held in the sanctuary at 10:45 AM, blood mobiles will be stationed outside the building taking donations of all blood types. All are welcome to experience the worship and to donate blood, with donations being accepted on site from 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM. T-shirts will be given away to all donors and there will be prizes, pizza and souvenirs outside. The worship service will include wonderful music, praise dancing and so much more.
