MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The U.S. Marshals Service has arrested a former Montgomery County, Alabama Corrections Officer.
Timothy Bernard Summerlin, 33, was employed with the Montgomery County Sheriffs Department as a corrections officer for 3 1/2 years. It is alleged that beginning at a time unknown, up until about February 2023, Summerlin conspired with multiple individuals to deliver prohibited items to federal inmates that are housed at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Summerlin received an excessive amount of currency as payment over time as a result of providing illegal contraband to the inmates.
Summerlin was arrested on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 without incident in the Walmart (Chantilly) parking lot by the United States Marshals Service and members of the Montgomery Police Department. Summerlin was transported to the Frank M. Johnson Federal Courthouse where he was seen by Federal Magistrate Judge Chad Bryan and charged with Conspiracy to Provide Contraband to an inmate in prison, and Bribery of a Public Official.
Chief Deputy M. Dante Gordon stated that. “Corrections officers are held to a high standard of integrity, trust, and honor. This investigation has spanned over approximately seven (7) months by my office and we are not done yet. There will be more indictments coming very soon.”
The United States Marshals Service for the Middle District of Alabama partnered with Sheriff Derrick Cunningham and members of the Montgomery County Sheriffs Department for this successful investigation.
