Tuskegee, AL- The Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce hosted an Open Meeting at its new headquarters at 113 Westside Street. The meeting took place on April 24th with almost 50 in attendance.
The new headquarters is located in a renovated building in downtown Tuskegee.
City of Tuskegee Mayor Lawrence F. Haygood Jr. is excited about the Chamber’s new headquarters and expressed that it will be the catalyst to revitalizing the downtown area. “We have plans to renovate downtown and bring more retail to the city.”
Macon County Commissioner Jan Fountain gave remarks and shared that the Chamber is valuable to the community.
Macon County Commissioner Miles Robinson gave an update on the $3million dollar grant application to help businesses in the Macon County overcome barriers to success. The grant was prepared through a three-way partnership involving the Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce, Tuskegee University, and Auburn University. A decision is expected in June 2023.
A resolution honoring the life of Trevor Small, Vice President of the Tuskegee Area Chamber of Commerce, was presented to his widow, Katrice Small. An accountant and financial advisor, Trevor will be remembered for having a great impact on the City of Tuskegee and assisting Macon County Businesses during the rise of COVID-19 pandemic. He passed on March 24th.
The Chamber looks forward to the George Washington Carver Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Downtown Tuskegee Square.
After the meeting, attendees and members had the opportunity to socialize and network.
