MONTGOMERY, AL – The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum is calling ghosts, goblins, princesses and super heroes of all ages to join in the spooktacular fun at this year’s ZooBoo. ZooBoo is fun for the entire family with both scary and non-scary hayrides, tasty treats, costumed characters, and carnival-type games.
The 13 night event will be held October 11-13, 18-20 and 25-31 from 6:00-9:00 nightly with the last admission at 8:30 pm.
The Pumpkin Pull is a kid-friendly ride through whimsical scenes including a ghost party, super heroes, and some of everyone’s most loved characters. Those looking for a true fright can take a trip around the zoo on the Haunted Hayride. This ride is sure to be filled with screams, fright, and chills as you face your fears and phobias in the dark. Both hayrides will have new scenes this year.
The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum has partnered with the Alabama Herb Society for the second year of “Scarecrows in the Zoo”. A friendly competition of who can create the best scarecrow from all natural or recycled materials. This year will include entries from individuals to major corporations.
“We are excited to bring Scarecrows at the Zoo back for a second year. Our partnership with the Montgomery Herb Society has created another venue for temporary public art,” Melanie Golson, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Zoo said. “The scarecrow field is an exciting opportunity to bring new and creative things to ZooBoo each year,” she went on to say. Anyone interested in creating a scarecrow should contact Duane Mara at duckmara@bellsouth.net or Melanie Golson at mgolson@montgomeryzoo.com.
Now in its 28th year, ZooBoo is the Zoo’s fall fundraiser and a family friendly and safe alternative to trick or treating. Proceeds from the event will help the Zoo fund the design, construction and adding to the animal collection of a new reptile facility. “ZooBoo is one of the longest running fall festival events in the River Region,” explained Melanie Golson. “It is exciting to see visitors who came to ZooBoo as a child bring their children to experience the fun,” she went on to say.
Over 150 volunteers are needed each night to make ZooBoo fun for guests. If you, your family, friends, club, or business are interested in volunteering contact Melanie Golson, Volunteer Coordinator at mgolson@montgomeryal.gov.
