Montgomery, Alabama – June 28, 2023- On Second Sundays, hundreds of people will gather downtown and have fun in Montgomery, Alabama. With live music, makers, bakers, food trucks, and tour groups exploring Montgomery, multitudes will head downtown to support artists, small businesses, and junior entrepreneurs. Summer is in full swing as families, residents, and visitors can hear live music, savor tasty treats, and support local artists. Families are encouraged to bring chalk and make sidewalk chalk art. Bring lawn chairs, pets, and enjoy downtown.
These Second Sunday Events exist thanks to one lady who loves her community. Keiauna White, the owner of The BeYOUtiful Boutiques, created an event called Second Sundays as a way to give back to Montgomery. Every second Sunday of the month, the community will have a chance to support local makers and the art community. On Sunday, July 9th Second Sunday will kick off support for Pastor Austin’s MAP Youth Summer Camp in West Montgomery aiming to support 200 children this summer. “Our Youth Summer Camp aims to get 200 children off the streets for 8 weeks this summer,” said Pastor Ken Austin, Pastor of New Walk of Life Church and Executive Director of Mercy House/MAP Center. “We have 135 sponsorships and need more support to provide transportation, meals, and field trips this summer. We need all of Montgomery’s help.”
“I am excited about helping students in need in our community,” said Keiauna White. “Hosting Second Sundays allows the Montgomery community to come together and support our neighbors in need. “I am also excited about helping artists, creatives, and makers.”
Second Sundays occur on the second Sunday of every month from 2:00-4:00 pm unless it falls on a holiday. The next one will be Sunday, July 9th. Held at 1 Court Square in front of The BeYOUtiful Boutiques, a limited number of spaces are available for vendors on a first-come basis. All the event dates are on the Facebook page for BeYOUtiful Boutiques. Residents and visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, explore downtown each month, and support Montgomery artists and makers. Non-profit Organizations are encouraged to partner with the event for awareness to better our community.
