Pretrial Alliance Montgomery hosted a Community Listening Session on March 28th at Montgomery City-County Public Library Juliette Hampton Morgan Library. The purpose of the session was to provide the community the opportunity to share concerns, feedback, and ideas of the pretrial system.
Participants were divided into small discussion groups.
Montgomery County Community Corrections Director Phil Bryant gave a presentation and discussed legal principles of pretrial, detention and community safety, and common needs of people on pretrial.
Research shows that unnecessary detention is associated with higher rates of re-arrest. In addition, national studies show that about 80% of pretrial outcomes are successful and about 1-3% of pretrial outcomes result in new arrests.
Pretrial Alliance Montgomery consists of a group of court officials, community leaders, and organizations working together to improve the pretrial process and identify effective and equitable improvements.
