Why is Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04) cozying up to Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan? Has he forgotten how bad an actor Kazakhstan has been both to the United States and its own citizens? This is a country accused of disrespecting the rule of law and actively silencing outspoken critics. Rep. Aderholt should shift his focus from overseas back to Alabama and get to work on impending issues like our failing prison and education systems.
A relationship with Kazakhstan isn’t going to solve our problems here at home, especially if it means working with known kleptocrats that continue to violate the values our country holds dear. The issues in Alabama need to be solved by working with members of our community, not a foreign country.
