New ASU ‘President’s Promise’ Scholarship Provides Tuition Assistance!

Montgomery, AL- Alabama State University officials have announced a new scholarship for current and new out-of-state students. Named the “President’s Promise” Scholarships, it is an award of up to $8,300 per year to assist with tuition costs for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters.

The President’s Promise Scholarships will be awarded to out-of-state undergraduate students who are seeking their first degree at ASU. Students must meet the qualifications set by the University’s Office of Admissions and Recruitment.

“We are excited to be able to offer this scholarship to the out-of-state students who choose Alabama State University,” said President Quinton T. Ross Jr., the visionary behind the President’s Promise Scholarships. “ASU has always been fortunate to attract students from across the nation, and we want to make it easier for them to become members of Hornet Nation. Offering these scholarships is one means of accomplishing that goal.”

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

The President’s Promise Scholarship is worth approximately $4,164 per semester/per student and will be applied to tuition only. Students who receive the scholarships are still responsible for the costs not covered under this award, which includes such things as books, fees, and room and board, according to Freddie Williams Jr., ASU’s director of Admissions and Recruitment.

“Unlike many conventional scholarships, students will not have to apply for this scholarship because if they meet the requirements, it will be automatically applied to their account upon enrollment, whether they are new or current students,” said Williams.

“From the very beginning of his tenure as ASU’s President, Dr. Ross promised to always work hard for the University’s students, and I believe that this endeavor will be recognized as part of his keeping this promise,” Williams added.
