MPD Charges Suspect in ASU Student Homicide

MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Police Department is conducting a Homicide  Investigation following the death of an Alabama State University transfer student, Adam  Dowdell, Jr., 22, of Alabaster, Alabama. 

On September 14, 2020, at about 2:45 pm, MPD, ASU, and Fire Medics responded to the  800 block of Hutchinson Street after receiving a report of a possible body found. The  body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy. After further investigation, the body was officially identified as Adam Dowdell, Jr., a  transfer student who was attending Alabama State University. 

The circumstances and cause of death were initially unknown which prompted a Death  Investigation however, new evidence revealed that Dowdell, Jr. was fatally shot which  resulted in the initiation of a Homicide Investigation. 

MPD charged Ivry Hall, 20, of Montgomery, with Murder. Hall was identified as the suspect, taken into custody on September 18, 2020, and then placed in the Montgomery  County Detention Facility. 

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown however, Hall was identified  as the suspect. There is no additional information available for release in connection to  this continuing investigation. This was the 46th Murder of 2020. 

Note: A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendant is assumed innocent unless and  until proven guilty.
