MPACT Manufacturing Month Kickoff On October 2

Montgomery, AL- Manufacturing is a key to economic growth in the River Region. Montgomery Public Schools, the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery County Commission are joining with area manufactures, businesses and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce to promote October as Manufacturing Month with a kickoff on October 2nd.

More than 200 Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career and Technologies (MPACT) students, will attend the kickoff event at ALFA Insurance’s Headquarters. City and county officials will talk with students about today’s manufacturing environment and promote the incredible opportunities of a career in manufacturing. MPACT graduate Steven Cooper with Dixie Electric will talk with students about careers. Over the next month there will also be live demonstrations for students from nearly a dozen manufactures.

“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology,” said Marsha Baugh, MPS director of career technology programs. “The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56. Over the next few years there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers. We are using this event to help our students understand the tremendous professional opportunities in manufacturing.”

Manufacturing Month is an annual national event. River Region manufactures will host students, teachers, parents, and job seekers with plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
