MONTGOMERY, AL – The Montgomery County Community Cooperative District, a board of select community leaders formed to oversee the construction of the new Montgomery Whitewater project located in west Montgomery, Alabama, has hired local company JESCO, Inc. Construction as its General Contractor and Construction Manager at Risk.

This world-class outdoor recreation and entertainment district will be constructed amid 120 acres directly located on Maxwell Boulevard, between Interstate 65 and Maxwell Air Force Base. The center will include outdoor adventure sports such as rock climbing, zip-lining, a state-of-the-art whitewater course for both kayaks and rafts, standup paddleboarding, flatwater kayaking, hiking, and biking, and supporting buildings including an amphitheater, retail, and restaurants. This project promises to be a key destination hub for Montgomery and Alabama.

“The Montgomery Whitewater project will be transformative for Montgomery and the entire region,” said Leslie Sanders, Chair of the Montgomery County Community Cooperative District and Vice President of Alabama Power’s Southern Division. “The elements to be included in this project will provide unmatched recreational and training opportunities for those in our area but will also attract people from across the United States and the world. I am excited JESCO, Inc. has been selected to move this project from an idea on paper and topic of conversation into the construction phase. Exciting weeks and months are ahead.”

Development and operations partner, Southern Whitewater Development Group (SWDG) has been providing the project leadership to date. “SWDG is excited to welcome JESCO to the Montgomery Whitewater project development team,” said Program Manager Jeffrey Gustin. “We have been impressed with JESCO’s reputation within Montgomery County, their local trade partnerships, and their enthusiasm to embrace the project goals, vision and commitment to minority and local trade participation.”

JESCO, Inc. Construction, a Montgomery based contractor for over 40 years, has managed and constructed some of the marque projects in Central Alabama including: Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium, Montgomery Regional Airport, Judicial Office Building, Legends Hotel and Conference Center, and the Clubhouse at Capitol Hill.

“JESCO is excited to be part of the Montgomery Whitewater project. Building local projects like this is special to our team and are legacy projects that you can tell your kids and grandkids about long after the work is complete,” said Vice President of Operations Trey Hard.

With construction operations throughout the Southeastern United States, JESCO is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Yates Companies, a perennial ENR “Top 50” Contractor, with over $2 billion in annual sales revenue.

The Montgomery Whitewater Project will have a heavy emphasis on participation from Minority & Woman Owned Businesses. Any MBE/WBE contractors who would like to participate are encouraged to submit their qualifications, contact information and a letter of interest to info@swdgmontgomery.com.
