Montgomery is growing in many areas- tourism, technology, tourism, and economic development just to name few. There is another untapped area that the city is growing in. That happens to be the arts. Montgomery is filled with so many talented artists. One in particular is KBlocks, who was a recently a contestant on the twenty-second season of American Idol.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Well, My Name is KBlocks or KBlocks The Artist. I marched for the Alabama State Mighty Marching Hornet Band. I love music but more importantly I love the way music makes people feel. I started doing music as a way to cope with my mental health and I hope that I can inspire others to use creativity to help heal
When did you first become interested in arts and music?
Well I’ve been around music my entire life, but I started writing music after battling depression and anxiety. Music was a way for me to release.
You recently were a contestant on American Idol. Share with us some of that experience and what you gained from it.
The experience was amazing. It was very eye opening, and it got a bit overwhelming at times. I learned that having confidence and being yourself could open up doors you’d never thought you’d be in.
How can you use that experience to contribute to the arts and music culture in Montgomery.
I want to create a performance development course to help young artists with stage presence and performance techniques.
What projects are you currently working on?
Right now I’m working on a few things, one specifically being a program that will teach youth and young adults performance development techniques.
What are some of your hobbies?
My hobbies are photography, going to the gym, and finding time to do absolutely nothing.
What are your social media handles?
@KblocksTheArtist on all platforms.
