Hayneville, AL– On Wednesday morning, The Lowndes County Area Chamber of Commerce (LCACC) hosted its Inaugural National Small Business Week Observance Breakfast at DeepWoods Soul Food Restaurant.
The purpose of National Small Business Week is to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners to society.
Alabama State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director Andrea Mosley was the guest speaker. She talked about the importance of supporting small businesses. “Everyone wins when we support small businesses” Mosley said. “When we support small businesses, they began to thrive. They can offer more jobs, and this helps make the economy better.”
At the end of her address, Mosley shared how the SBDC is helping entrepreneurs and small businesses during the pandemic. “We are offering support with recovery and strategic planning. We have to help these businesses thrive in a new norm.”
DeepWoods Soul Food Restaurant Owner Mary Bell was presented with The Small Business of the Year Award. The restaurant has been operating for over 20 years and has become a staple in Lowndes County.
LCACC President Dr. O.L. Hubert gave a brief overview of some upcoming projects for the area. One is the Lowndes County Area Health and Medical Institute Career Awareness Training Program. Through a partnership with LB Health Care Training Center, high school students can get certified as EKG Technicians and other relative positions.
Other projects include a 30-bed hospital with 24-hour ER service, a 30-unit middle-income housing gated community, and annual events to boost tourism.
The mission of LCACC is to promote small business/industry, community/economic development, tourism, as well as, other historical, cultural, Civil Rights, other sports, and other amenities that the county has to offer that will enhance business opportunities and the quality of life in Lowndes County.
