Local organization to host career fair for area middle school students

MONTGOMERY, AL –  Community Mbrace will hold a career fair for area middle school students on Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at McIntyre Community Center, 1240 Hugh Street. The goal of the event is to introduce middle school students to a variety of career fields, with special emphasis on those that require technical skills. Organizers of the event want to raise awareness of competitive jobs that do not require a traditional four-year degree.

“Middle school is the perfect age to begin introducing a variety of careers and industries to students. It helps them discover what their interests are, and begin building employability skills that they can continue to develop once they enter high school,” said Dorothy Johnson, president of Community Mbrace. “Many of our young people are looking for options outside of a four-year degree. They want to know what competitive, well-paying jobs are out there for them. Our hope is that students will have the opportunity to interact with skilled tradespeople, entrepreneurs, and public service professionals to learn about what they do and what skills are required to perform their jobs. They can take that knowledge with them as they begin planning for their futures.”

Representatives from more than 20 public and private sector businesses including health care, hospitality, public works, law enforcement, skilled trades, construction, and maintenance, will be available to talk to students and their parents about careers. There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided.

Community Mbrace is a 501c3 organization dedicated to meeting tangible needs through collaboration, deepening understanding and embracing agape love, which, as the love of God operating in the human heart, seeks to foster unity.
