Local mobile food pantry provides meals for seniors

By Gumptown Magazine Staff

Montgomery, AL- Mary Alice’s Food Panty, Incorporated (MAFP) is a non-profit, mobile food pantry, providing food assistance to senior citizens in the Montgomery, Alabama region who are experiencing a need.

MAFP was founded by Mrs. Jennifer C. Whetstone, a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, Alabama State University Alumnus, and retired teacher of the Montgomery Public School System. Although her career of more than 30 years in education led her to serve children and young adults, it remained a desire of Mrs. Whetstone to continually serve her local community. In memory of her mother, Mary Alice Hubbert, she shifted her focus to serving seniors during her retirement years.

Over the past few months, MAFP served local seniors in the following ways:

• December 2020 – Spreading some much needed holiday cheer! Volunteers delivered Holiday Grocery Bags to residents of a senior community filled with essentials for the perfect holiday meal.

• February 2021 – Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and seniors need love too! Volunteers delivered Valentine’s Day Surprises to seniors letting them know they are thought of and loved!

• April 2021 – Now that spring has sprung it’s time to have some fun! Volunteers delivered Easter Goodies to seniors in an effort to bring a smile to their faces and brighten their day!

MAFP has much more in store over the next few months and looks forward to partnering with individuals, local businesses and community-based organizations to further its mission. If you are interested in learning more about MAFP, send your inquires to maryalicefoodpantry@gmail.com .
