Prattville, AL- The Leadership Autauga County Class of 2020 is raising funds to help the Autauga County Interfaith Care Center. This year’s class has 15 members and they chose the AICC as their project after visiting the facility in October for Non-Profit Day.
The AICC is an ecumenical response of Autauga County churches and service agencies to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of individuals and families facing urgent situations. The center is located at 163 West Third Street in Prattville.
AICC Executive Director Denise Brown and AICC Board Chairman Keith Cantrell met with several members of Leadership Autauga County Class of 2020 to discuss the needs of the center. Together they developed a very ambitious plan:
- To build a wall and ceiling in the second floor.
- To create a 2000 square foot “Workroom” so volunteers can have more space to sort donated clothes.
- Remodel an existing janitor’s closet into a laundry room so volunteers can finally launder donated clothes to make more clothing available to those in need.
Currently, AICC volunteers have very little room to sort donated clothes.
So far, Leadership Autauga County is working with an architect, electrician/plumber, and heating and cooling company. In addition, the class has already raised $2,115 as part of #GivingTuesday, a Facebook Fundraiser.
“There are so many people in Autauga County that benefit from the work that the AICC does” said Tim Haseltine, a member of the current class. “We are so excited to come alongside and do this project for them.”
Haseltine says that the class is looking for financial help to pay for the rest of the expertise and supplies to do the work that they are not qualified to do. “Our class is ready to work, move stuff around, paint, and do all the jobs that we are allowed to do.”
