Montgomery, AL– Over 100 came together to enjoy a night of elegance at Girlfriends Circle’s Inaugural 2020 Charity Gala. The event kicked off with a Red Carpet and was held at the Evans Pavilion.
Girlfriends Circle helps young women with paying utilities, buying food, and finding shelter. They also provide stipends for college students. A scholarship fund was recently established to help young girls attend college.
“The work that we do is grassroots” said Shanta Penick, Founder of Girlfriends Circle. “The funds that we receive go straight to the community.”
Award presentations were made to individuals for their involvement and work in the community. Recipients were:
Christian Leadership Award– Lecretia Middleton and Jamie Cromblin (Beyond Sports)
Impact Award- Terrence Baldwin (M.E.O.W. Academy) and Ira & Saddia Walls (R.O.D. Center)
Unsung Hero Award- Rochelle Tyus
Most Valuable Player- Renita Cross-Scott.
Several local organizations were also recognized for their impact. The “Spotlight” recipients were That’s My Child, Whom It Concerns, Young Men on a Mission, Pink-N-Pearls for Girls, Mercy House, Caffey Development Center, and Divas and Gents.
Entertainment for the gala was provided by DJ Rodney Powell.
The mission of Girlfriends Circle is to uplift, encourage, inspire, and motivate women to grow personally, spiritually, and financially by fellowshipping with all women as we build up our community.
