Former MLB Player & City Councilor Team to Form Foundation in Prattville

Prattville, AL- Marlon Anderson and Marcus Jackson have launched a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization known as The Marlon and Marcus Foundation to improve the lives of children and their families in underserved communities, particularly in the founders’ hometown of Prattville, Alabama. The Foundation is rooted in service and seeks to empower young people through education, resources, and experiences.

Marlon Anderson was a 2nd round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies baseball organization in 1995. In an MLB career spanning more than a decade, Marlon also played for the Rays, Dodgers, Cardinals, Nationals, and Mets before making the transition to coaching. Marcus Jackson proudly works in his community as an educator in the Autauga County school system and a football coach with Prattville Junior High School. He represents the citizens of District 2 on the Prattville City Council.

The Marlon and Marcus Foundation’s vision is to build a world class Multi-Purpose Activity Facility on the site of the North Highland Memorial Community Center Complex in one of Prattville’s most underserved and most historic areas. North Highland was home to Prattville’s first and only Black high school prior to integration. Programming at the new facility will include academic support, sports, mentoring, a community garden, senior wellness activities, and exposure to the arts. In addition, the Foundation will serve as a vehicle to provide scholarships and promote college and career readiness programs. Over the years, both Marlon and Marcus have shown their commitment to serving young people in the community. The Foundation aims to take that service to the next level and build a legacy for generations to come.

The First Annual Marlon and Marcus Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic is scheduled for May 10-11, 2021 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill in Prattville. More than a dozen former professional athletes, including former Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones, have committed to lend their time and talents to the event. An All-Star Pairings Party will take place on the evening before the golf event with tickets starting at just $100.
