DeMarcus Weems appointed as City of Uniontown Police Chief

Uniontown, AL- DeMarcus Weems was recently appointed to serve as the new Police Chief for the City of Uniontown in Perry County. His swearing in ceremony will be August 23, 2021, at 2PM at the City of Uniontown City Hall, 108 Front Street.

“This is a great opportunity, and I am very excited,” said Weems. “I will work hard to help stop the violence in the city.”

Weems says that he will have access to more resources in his new position. He anticipates on working with other agencies to include The Demopolis Police Department, The Marion Police Department, The Selma Police Department and The Perry County Sheriff’s Department.

Before coming to Uniontown, Weems served as The Town of Mosses Police Chief in Lowndes County. While there, Weems has hosted several community events to include Lowndes County Connection Day, The Town of Mosses Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, and The Town of Mosses Inaugural Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway. He was appointed in May of last year.

In addition to community involvement, Weems has established partnerships with several organizations including Central Alabama Crimestoppers, One Place Family Justice Center, and The Council on Substance Abuse- NCADD (COSA).

Weems plans to pursue similar efforts in Uniontown. “I will continue to do community policing and community events. I will remain proactive in preventing crime.”

An esteemed member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., and Abraham Lodge #267, PHA, Weems holds a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations from Troy University. After graduating from the Montgomery Police Academy in 2014 and securing a position as a School Resource Officer with the Wetumpka Police Department, Weems returned to his alma mater to earn a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2016.

To Weems, serving as Chief of Police in the City of Uniontown will foster more growth in leadership.
